DeLores "Dee" LaPlant 1936 ~ 2020

DeLores Maurine "Dee" LaPlant was born May 31, 1936 in Anthony, Kansas, daughter of Harold Dale Wilson and Mildred Beatrice (Johnson) Wilson.  She attended school in Anthony.
On her 18th birthday, May 31, 1954, Dee married James Leo LaPlant in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was close to the town they were living in.  This union was blessed with four children: an infant son who was stillborn, Janise, Mary Jo, and Jimmy.  They were one and a half months shy of celebrating 65 years of marriage when Jim passed away in 2019.
After marrying they lived in California for a few years before returning to Kansas.  While Jim worked for Boeing, Dee first ran the White Front Restaurant in Anthony.  Later they purchased the Fox Hole.  When the Fox Hole burned in 1974, they purchased the Bamboo tavern, running it until 1982.
Dee loved working in the public and enjoyed joking around with all the patrons.  She also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, cards and dominos (as long as she was winning), and camping and fishing with her grandsons.  Dee was also an avid football fan.  They lived in a house divided - Dee being a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Jim the Kansas City Chiefs.
In 1986, Dee and Jim moved to Zapata, Texas.  Retiring to life at Falcon Lake was just what she and Jim had always dreamed of.  Dee found a new pastime of gardening and took an interest in her sister, Mary's citrus trees.  With all their new friends they continued enjoying evenings of games and events at the local VFW.  In 2015, they moved to Wichita, Kansas to be closer to family.
After Jim passed away Dee moved to Country Living in Anthony until her health declined and she moved into the Attica Long Term Care.
On August 13, 2020, Dee passed away at Attica Long Term Care at the age of 84.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Tommy Wilson; sister, Daleyne Earnest; daughter, Janise Daley; son-in-law, JB Bush; and grandson, Corey Jenks.
Dee will be deeply missed by her daughter, Mary Jo Bush; son, Jimmy LaPlant and wife, Susan; sister, Mary Wolf; 6 grandchildren:  Loren Nelson, Nikk Nelson, Billy Joe Foss, Leonard Foss, CJ LaPlant, and Amanda Bauer; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Pastor Kent Olds officiating.  Musical selections included "Broken Halos" by Christ Stapleton, "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, and "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by Vince Gill.
Burial followed in Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony.  Casket bearers were CJ LaPlant, Billy Joe Foss, Leonard Foss, Nikk Nelson, Aaron McCammon, and Ashton McCammon.
Memorials in memory of Dee may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
