Judie Ann (Sidman) Hormel 1940 ~ 2020

    Judie Ann Hormel was born August 3, 1940, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Robert and Ruby (Carlson) Sidman. She grew up and attended school in Wellington, Kansas, where she graduated in 1958.  Judie met the love of her life, and soul mate of 62 years, Frank Hormel, and on June 29, 1958, they were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas.
    Frank and Judie made their home on the family farm southwest of Anthony, Kansas. Judie was a homemaker, loving mother to their five children, and helped Frank with their greyhound training business. In her spare time, Judie was an avid fan of the University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball team and rarely missed watching a game.  Judie’s labor of love was cooking, and her legacy of delicious recipes will be carried on by her family – especially her burned grilled cheese sandwiches.   
    Judie passed away September 24, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 80.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruby Sidman; two sisters: Patricia (Patsy) Wolford, Vicky Smith; one brother, Harry Sidman; and one son, Todd Conrad Hormel.
    Judie is survived by her husband Frank; daughters: Tina Youngblood, from Braman, Oklahoma, Tracy Hormel from Anthony, Kansas, Terri Peterson and husband Travis, from Conway Springs, Kansas, and one son, Troy Hormel and wife Betsy, of Claremore, Oklahoma.  Also surviving are two sisters: Barbara Trego and husband Ralph of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Marie Benton from Leedy, Oklahoma, one brother: Bobby Sidman and wife Sally from Amarillo, Texas.  Grandchildren:   Caley and Corey Sommers, Leah Wakely, Nick Morland and fiancé, Juana Tackett, Tiffany and Bernie Fisher, Bo Morland, C.J. Smallwood, Dustin Higgins, Jennifer and Drew Brown, Michelle and Destry Nelson, Aaron Peterson, and Hailey Parker.  She will also be missed by her Great-Grandchildren:  Gunnar Tackett, Logan and Landree Fisher, Elijah Morland, Ava Higgins, Alexis and Emily Brown, and a host of family and friends.
    A private memorial service will be held on October 10, 2020.  Judie was an advocate for St. Jude’s children.  Memorials in memory of Judie may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Judie Hormel Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
