A Memorial Service for Lois Mildred (Rife) McKee of Anthony will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 14, at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, with the Reverend Karen Miller officiating. After internment at Burchfiel cemetery, a reception will follow at Banc Central family room. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lois Rife was born July 10, 1925 in Bluff City, KS, where her father was teaching. Her parents were Casper Lee Rife and Grace (McClister/Ford) Rife. Lois attended schools in Anthony and Spring Township. She also attended Southwestern College where she received a teaching certificate. Returning to Spring Township she taught at Geitgey School during WWII. When her fiancé, Richard (Steve) McKee, returned home from submarine duty in the South Pacific, they were married December 2, 1945, in the Burchfiel United Methodist Church. After being married she continued to substitute teach at Spring Elementary School.
Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was devoted to her family, church, and community, and served in many roles too numerous to list, but we will try to remember some. She was a lifetime member of Burchfiel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, helped with vacation bible school, sang in the church choir and the women’s quartet, helped with sunrise pageants, directed the church Christmas Program for at least 50 years, was an active member in Burchfiel UMW, Farmerettes, Spring Chicks EHU, sang with Harmonettes (Beauty Shop Group), assisted with many fund raising dinners for the Anthony Hospital and Clinic; worked on the farm and at the Powell’s Red Barn. She served on a variety of church and community boards, and much more. She won many top ribbons at the Harper County Fair for her bread making skills, and taught many 4-Hers the art of baking bread.
She is survived by her sister Donna Coble, Severy, KS; sister-in-law, Wilma Rife, Lawrence, KS; her cousins Lee Rife of St. Paul, Minn.; and Jack Rife, of Washington, D.C. Other survivors include her children Richard Lee McKee and his wife Toni, Anthony; and Kerry Dan McKee, Anthony; son-in-law Stephen Clark, Oklahoma City. OK; grandchildren Tiffani Lara and husband Matthew, Manhattan, KS; Sean McKee, Anthony; Kelly Robertson and husband Tyler, Leawood, KS; Katie Lee McKee, Anthony; Kendra Clark, Oklahoma City; Robert Clark and his wife Kim, Austin, Texas; great grandchildren Brooke Black, Manhattan; Eric Black, Manhattan; Hannah Clark, Kendall Clark, Austin Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard (Steve) McKee, brother-in-law Floyd Coble; her brother Max Lee Rife; her daughter Junea Louise Clark. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
