Rosalia Marie "Sally" Francis was born October 27, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of Agnes Erker and Francis Kraus. She was raised by her grandparents, Ferdinand and Caroline (Haukap) Erker. Sally graduated from Wellington High School.
On August 10, 1949, Sally was united in marriage with Lloyd L. Francis at St. Anthony's Church in Wellington, Kansas. They made their home on the Francis family farm near Bluff City, Kansas for 22 years. During this time their five sons, Dennis, Jerry, Allen, Bryan, and Kevin, were born. In 1972, they moved to a farm northwest of Harper. In 1984, they moved to Spivey, Kansas, where Sally served on the City Council and was the Mayor for many years.
Sally worked many jobs throughout the years including being a telephone operator and working at Safeway, Meador's Market, JCPenney and Larry's IGA, all in Anthony, but took the most pride in being a mother, homemaker and farm wife. She worked side by side with Lloyd on the family farm, driving tractor, hauling wheat, feeding cattle, and keeping all the help fed. She was an excellent cook, growing and canning most of her food. She enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and family, pinochle and pitch being her favorites. She was very talented at crocheting, quilting, sewing and needlepoint. With her giving heart, she donated numerous quilts and other homemade items to charities and raffles throughout the years.
Sally was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and most recently attended St. John Church in Zenda, KS. While living in Bluff City and Harper, she was active in Sacred Heart Church of Anthony, St. Patrick's Church of Harper and for many years also showed support to St. Patrick's School in Kingman.
