Shirley Stansbury 1935 ~ 2020

Shirley J. (Jesseph) Stansbury, 85, of Argonia, retired secretary / bookkeeper and former co-owner of R&S Furniture and Carpet, died Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Botkin Care and Rehab Center, Wellington, Kansas.
Shirley was born September 14, 1935 of Argonia, Kansas to William Edward “Tinker” Jesseph and Alma May (Kimberlin) Jesseph.  She moved with her family to Bluff City and Dexter where she attended local schools. Her mother died when she was 16 years of age and her father married Margaret (Harrington) Glantz. This union added three siblings to Shirley’s life. The family made their home again at Argonia where Shirley graduated from Argonia High School with the class of 1953. She began working for the City of Wichita in the Traffic Court division.
Shirley was united in marriage to Ralph Leroy Stansbury on June 3, 1955 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Wichita, Kansas. They made their first home in Wichita before moving to Argonia in 1962 where they raised their family of three children.
In 1970, Shirley began working for Dr. R.C. Craig in Argonia in numerous capacities. She continued to later work for Dr’s Walter and Kathy Forred and Dr. Ralph Bellar before going to work at Lamar Aircraft in Wellington in the bookkeeping department. She and Ralph opened R&S Furniture in Argonia in 1982 selling furniture and carpet in the area for 35 years. They closed the business and retired in 2017. Ralph died on June 21, 2020.
Shirley was a member of the Argonia United Methodist Church. She served as the secretary for Salter House Museum and was an early member of the Argonia EMT’s.
She was also preceded death by her father and step-mother; two brothers: Charles and Wilber Jesseph; a sister Ileene Kibbe and a step-sister Judy Bennett.
Shirley is survived by two sons: Clinton Stansbury and his wife Carol of Argonia, Kansas; Craig Stansbury and his wife Dedra of Harper, Kansas; one daughter Sherry McCaslin and her husband Tim of Harper, Kansas; step-siblings: Bob Glantz and Connie Wacker of Winfield, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 in Argonia Cemetery, Argonia, Kansas. Arrangements were by Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs. On line condolences and guest book are available at www.ebersolemortuary.com
