Vana E. Prouse 1948 ~ 2020

Vana Elyn Prouse was born July 25, 1948 in Hardtner, Kansas, daughter of John Elmont and Vada Vadora (Main) Allenbach.  She began her childhood on a farm near Attica, Kansas.  Her family moved to Plainview, Wichita, Conway Springs, and Derby, before settling back in Attica.
On May 22, 1964, Vana was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Jimmie Harold Prouse.  They made their home a quarter mile south of the 1883 Prouse Homestead, the home of Jim's parents.  To this union two children were born: Vickie Jean and Harold Alan "Hal."
Vana was a farm girl at heart.  She worked beside Jim helping raise cattle and wheat, something she loved doing for nearly 50 years, before Jim passed away February 4, 2014.
In the early 1980's she went to work for the State of Kansas in the Quality Assurance Program Construction Division. During her years at the State she made many long lasting friendships with her co-workers, especially Pam Hoover, who became her best friend, sharing years of tears and laughter with her.  After retiring from the State in 2008, she went to work for Horizon's Mental Health as a Wraparound Facilitator.  She fully retired
Vana was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was truly the most caring, wonderful person, always putting everyone else before herself.  She was super excited that Luke and Devan are expecting her first great-granddaughter in April.  Her great-granddaughter will now have the best guardian angel ever!
Vana passed away on December 29, 2020 at the age of 72 on the farm she and Jim so dearly loved.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; best friend, Pam Hoover; and other close friends: Bill Waltrip and Jim Becker.
Vana will be deeply missed by her children:  Vickie Prouse and Hal Prouse and wife, Jennifer; grandson, Luke Merrifield and fiancé, Devan; granddaughters, Emry Schrant and Kaci Prouse; sisters: Vonda DeLano and Jan Yancey; several nieces and nephews including:  Jesse Botkin; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside service was held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony, Kansas, with Vana's nieces, Lisa Kilts and Michelle Chism, speaking.  The service is available for viewing on Vana's obituary page at www.prairierosefuneralhomes.com.
