Janet Sue Brooks was born May 13, 1964 in Reno, Nevada, daughter of James and Shirley (Hoveland) Brooks. She grew up in Anthony, Kansas, graduating from Chaparral High School with the Class of 1982. She furthered her education receiving a Master’s Degree.
Jan had a great love for the Lord and chose to spend her life praising him through her work as a Presbyterian Minister. She was an avid member of the Kansas Muzzleloaders Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Social Order of the Beauceant. She loved astronomy and teaching Native American history and heritage.
On October 1, 2021, Jan passed away at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 57 years. She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents, Ben and Leafy Brooks, who helped raise her.
Jan will be deeply missed by her father, Jim Brooks; and a host of friends, whom she adopted as family; and many former parishioners.
Memorial graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southeast of Bluff City, Kansas, with Reverend John Barkett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jan Brooks Memorial Fund, and will be divided among a few of Jan’s favorite charities.

Directions to the cemetery: Go east out of Anthony on Hwy K44 to Bluff City Road (NE 90 Ave) and turn south (right). Go six miles south to SE 60 Rd (1/2 mile south of Bluff City) and turn east (left) and go ¼ mile. The cemetery is on the north side of the SE 60 Rd.
