David Hiram Cooper Jr. was born June 16, 1939 on the family farm near Freeport, Kansas, the first child born to David Hiram and Maxine Mae (Long) Cooper.
He attended 1st grade at the Dixon Country School. He attended Bluff City Elementary School and Bluff City High School, where he graduated in 1957.
Before graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves.
David worked as a Supervisor for the Coleman Company in Wichita until he retired.
David was an avid toy train collector. He enjoyed collecting trains and attending train conventions. He travelled all over the United States attending train conferences.
David and his brother, Jack, enjoyed going to swap meets. They usually came home with more than they took to sell. They also attended Kaiser-Frazer car meets.
On March 26, 2025, David passed away at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack; his sister, Karen Fee; his brother-in-law Jesse Solorio; and his brother-in-law, Freddie Fee.
David will be deeply missed by his sister, Barbara Solorio; nieces and nephew: Debbie (Ed) Lehman, Gidget (Tom) Tucker, Jesse (Sandy) Solorio Jr., Teresa (Richard) Reynolds, and Donna (Perry) Klassen; several great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2025 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Pastor Matt Busby officiating. Burial followed in the Singer Cemetery, northeast of Bluff City.
Memorials in memory of David may be made to the Freeport Presbyterian Church or to the Anthony Community Care Center and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
