2026
Alan Dean Seifert, age 69, of Anthony, KS passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on May 16, 2026.
Alan was born on December 10, 1956 in Wichita, KS, son of Galen and Imogene Seifert (Misak). Alan graduated from Wichita West High School in 1975 and soon after began farming around Bluff City full time with his father, Galen.
Alan spent nearly 50 years devoted to farming. Wheat and cattle were his main operations, but there were times when he grew other crops, such as alfalfa. He also served on the Danville Co-Op board for many years.
Alan married Sandra Littchum in October of 1975, just a few months after graduating from high school. From this union they were blessed with their only child, a son, Dusty.
Alan married Rita Miller (Mandevill) in January of 1992. Together, they were committed to farming and community service, helping to oversee the Bluff City Community building and other endeavors until her passing in 2009.
Alan and Melanie Sherman (Jones) began their relationship on St. Patrick’s Day, 2010 and they were together ever since! They married on November 28, 2025. Together they spent both of their retirements enjoying lake life at their home at Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Oklahoma. They were always great hosts for many family and friends!
When he wasn’t working on the farm, Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, playing poker, golfing, and motorcycle riding. To help keep himself occupied after retiring (and because he had watched every episode of Gunsmoke), he took up a hobby that came as a shock to everyone: pottery! He became quite a skilled potter, making many sets of dishes, mugs, and other pieces for family and friends.
Alan was a gentle giant of a man and a pillar of the farming community around Bluff City. He was the pinnacle of hard work and dedication. Steady, logical, methodical, and a calm problem-solver, he was someone people often came to for help and advice.
Alan was an anchor in the home. His calm, grounding presence was always a comfort for Melanie. Alan also had a trademark, dry wit that both delighted and surprised those who experienced it. A patient father and quintessential grandfather, he loved and cared for his family deeply.
Alan’s influence outside the four walls of his house was as impactful as it was within. He was a beloved uncle, and as the only uncle of several of his nieces and nephews, he was affectionately christened “Uncle,” not “Uncle Alan.”
Alan is survived by wife, Melanie, of the home; son, Dusty, and his wife, Laura, of Edgerton, KS; bonus children, Gemma and Dallas Lawrence of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Marcus Norris and Catherine Seifert of Edgerton, KS; sister, Dianna Sharp of Wichita, KS; and many other relatives and friends.
Alan is preceded in death by his wife, Rita; parents, Galen and Imogene; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and John Goertz; and great-nephew, Casey Seifert.
Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. to greet friends at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Anthony Christian Church with a lunch immediately following for family and friends. Burial will take place at approximately 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bluff City with a gathering at the Bluff City Community Building following the graveside.
