Daniel Joseph Bonham was born April 28, 1953, one year and five minutes after his sister, Jane, at the Galloway Hospital in Anthony, Kansas. He was the fourth of six children born to Leland Edwin and Valeria Mary (Niemann) Bonham.
In 1969, Danny, as he was known to family and friends, was one of four high school boys chosen to join the Attica Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department became one of the biggest and most special parts of his life. His brother, Donnie, was also one of the four boys chosen to join the department. After Danny graduated high school, he attended college for one semester, majoring in photography.
On April 25, 1981, Danny was united in marriage with Vickie Sue Brown at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Harper. To this union two daughters were born, Erika Renee and Jessica Dawn. They made their home in Attica, where Danny loved being a dad, and watching the girls grow up. He was always involved with their activities and they brought him much joy and happiness, making him a very proud father. He cherished so many memories with his daughters.
Danny loved his whole family and they were all very precious to him. His brothers and sisters were all very important to him, but most of all, his younger brother, Donnie. Donnie was Danny’s idol and Dan always looked up to Donnie and treated him with great respect. He was very proud of his little brother, as well as all his brothers and sisters: Edwin Allan who passed away, Margie the keeper of the family, Jane the one prone to accidents who shared her birthday with him, Danny himself being the shy one, Donnie the outspoken one, and Elaine the quiet one.
Danny was a member of the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church of the St. Joan of Arc Parish. In earlier years, he was baptized at the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Kiowa. He had a great faith and was very involved with his church. He was an Altar Boy, Eucharistic Minister, a member of the church choir, did video and photography, took communion to people whose health would not allow them to attend church, taught religious classes, and was a member of the Cursillo Group.
During his 40 years on the Attica Volunteer Fire Department, he trained to be on the CERT Team, became a storm spotter, and always loved working the tea tank during the Attica Rodeo. He also became a member of the Kansas State Firefighters Association.
On December 13, 2025, Danny passed away at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edwin Allan Bonham; his sister, Jane Jacobs; nephews, Justin Jacobs and Patrick Jacobs; niece, Amanda Dawn Schreiner; and his beloved wife, Vickie Sue.
Danny will be deeply missed by his daughters and grandchildren, Erika Sprague and son, Karter, and Jessica Kenmore and husband, Rick, and daughter, Jacquelin; his siblings: Margie Allphin, Donnie Bonham and wife, Shirley, and Elaine Schreiner and husband, Danny; several nieces and nephews; all his fellow firefighters, and a host of other relatives and many, many friends.
Danny wanted to tell his daughters to be sure and keep your heads up and make your life as extremely fun as you can. He also wanted to thank everyone that made his life extremely fun and that showed him love and respect. He greatly appreciated everyone that touched his life.
Recitation of Rosary was held 1:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Anthony, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish, Father Bhaskar Mendam serving as Celebrant. Burial followed in the Attica Cemetery.
