J.D. Martin

Attica - J.D. Martin, 85, passed away May 23, 2026 at Attica Long Term Care. He was born on November 12, 1940 in Medicine Lodge to James and Ruth (Freemyer) Martin. J.D. married Carol Jean (Hamilton) Martin on July 30, 1983 in Dodge City. They were married for 42 years.

J.D. graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1958. After graduating high school, he went on to join the United States Navy where he served until 1962. After he left the Navy, he went on to work as a cable layer from Western Electric and AT & T. He was a member of Attica American Legion Post #298, Attica Saddle Club, and several churches throughout his life. When he was growing up, he hand trimmed and pushed a reel lawn mowing the Lake City Church and cemetery, always making sure they looked their best. He drove late model stock cars from 1969 to 1981 where he won approximately 60 main events and 3 track championships. He was a problem solver who could build almost anything you wanted or needed and he was truly a jack of all trades. He enjoyed watching KU Basketball and Nascar on Television.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Martin; sons, Mike (Bobie) Davis of Montezeuma, Kansas, Mike Martin of Dodge City, Kansas, Ted Martin of Salina, Kansas (Kim Martin of Minneapolis, Kansas), and Nathan (Carla) Davis of Attica, Kansas; sister, Mary Massey of Colombia, Missouri; grandchildren, Mick Martin, Melissa Smith, Gant Martin, Crew Martin, Ashley (Josh) Redd, Brock (Halie) Davis, and Ian Davis; 10 great-granddaughters with another great-grandchild on the way.

J.D. is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Martin.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.with family receiving friends from 1 - 4 at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2026 at Harper United Methodist with Pastor Bruce Wilson presiding. Burial will follow at Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Kansas.
