Kent Edward Patterson passed away on June 22, 2026 in Tucson, Arizona.
Kent was born in Anthony, Kansas on January 29, 1947 to Wendell A and Betty (Newberry) Patterson.
Kent was married to Virginia D (Gini) Hayter on August 3, 1968 in Anthony, Kansas. Kent and Gini lived in Stillwater, OK after their marriage while they both completed their college educations. Kent received a BS and an MS from OSU.
Kent worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Tulsa, OK and then went to work for Roy F. Weston in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Then Kent joined Paul Woodruff and Phil Buckingham in a new company called Environmental Resources Management (ERM) in West Chester.
Kent finished his career at ERM as President of ERM MidAtlantic and he served as a director on the boards of a number of ERM companies. Since Kent’s retirement, ERM has grown to over 40 countries with over 7000 employees.
Kent had many interests throughout his life. He was an Eagle Scout and gave much time and energy to scouting as an adult receiving the Silver Beaver award. He was honored with the Hall of Fame award in Engineering at OSU.
Kent was an avid golfer, bicyclist, photographer and sailor. He loved doing landscaping photography. He spent a lot of time on his sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay and eventually moved up to an ocean going boat and sailed to Maine and back with his friends. Gini would join him in certain sections of the trips. He enjoyed sailing with his buddy and did a cross ocean cruise on one occasion.
After retirement, Kent and Gini summered in Colorado and Kent loved biking with buddies there. He even did 100 milers on a couple of occasions. They all prided themselves when they did the Vail to Breckenridge bike trail.
He enjoyed walking with his dog, Cody, and took him out for long walks twice a day.
Even when his disease was quite progressed he loved to walk and would “escape” from Gini just to get outside.
Kent had a wonderful life and lived it to the fullest. He is survived by his wife, Gini, his daughter, Kerry Lajeunesse and her husband, Dorian, and grandchildren, Aiden, Lucas and Audrey, his brother, Bryan Patterson and his wife, Lauri Patterson
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Scott, brother Neal, Neal’s wife, Jeanne (Lillig) Patterson, Bryan’s wife, Linda (Rice) Patterson and several cousins.
His cremains will be buried in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in Birmingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania next to his son.
