Patricia Lou (Edwards) Wolff no longer wonders what life would be like walking by Jesus’s side.
On February 13, 2026, slightly after 2pm, she ran to Jesus and all was restored! We can only envision what that looked and felt like – but we imagine how amazing it was!Pat was born on February 12, 1943, to Herschell H. and Neoma V. (Bagley) Edwards in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended Will Rogers High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy from Northeastern State Teachers College, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
She moved to Anthony, Kansas and became the Speech Therapist for USD 361. One night not long after moving, a handsome young farmer caught her attention, and the next chapter of her life began! Pat and Gerald married on New Year’s Eve in 1966. She became a farm wife (but successfully avoided learning to drive a tractor!) and mother. The births of Carrie and Jason made the family complete.
They became active members of the Anthony United Methodist Church after the kids were born. Sunday school, church, youth group, and church committees all became woven into the fabric of everyday life, along with a deep and abiding love for the Lord. And church dinners were not complete without some contribution from Pat! Hanging of the Greens, the Annual Church Soup/Chili Supper and Auction, choir, and a dedication to ensuring the church spent funds wisely, were just a few of the things Pat found herself involved with. She was instrumental with the Open Table dinners and ministry on Wednesday nights and volunteered at Obidiah’s Pantry.
Along with farming, Pat worked with Gerald in the auction and real estate business. Weekends were spent clerking at Gerald’s auctions and ensuring all balanced at the end. No easy feat as these were the days when cash and checks were the only options for payments! Some nights there were many feet of calculator paper on the floor and table! But she always got it balanced.
As the kids grew up, they kept Pat hopping…. Swim team, baseball, softball, Girl Scouts – there were very few events she missed. Trust me, Carrie, Jason, and everyone else knew when Pat was there “cheering them on”! And it wasn’t just her kids, she also gave equal coaching time to everyone’s kids.4-H involvement started when Carrie was 7 and Jason joined as well when he turned 7….Tip Top 4-H Club was a big part of life while the kids grew up. Carrie and Jason spent HOURS under Pat’s careful eye and ear ensuring project talks, demonstrations, sewing, cooking, showing hogs and cattle, and any other project they enrolled in was rehearsed or rebaked or hems redone until they probably could have done it in their sleep! She could also make sure a calf’s tail was “show ready” like no one’s business! Pat was an active 4-H leader as well. And regardless of how you interacted with Pat, kid or adult, everyone has probably found themselves the recipient of “the look” at least once!
Pat’s involvement in the community extended beyond the church. She was a favorite substitute teacher for years within USD361 as the teachers knew they could count on Pat to get lesson plans done! There were no “stick in a video” days when Mrs. Wolff was there!
She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, 24K Investment Club, volunteered at the Historic Anthony Theater, played tennis with the ladies, golfed for a short while, loved quilting, reading, gardening, birds, and flowers. She and Gerald also were in several bridge groups for many years and there may be more than one or two stories from those bridge nights!
Holidays and birthdays were special events too. Always little gifts and candy for Gerald and the kids. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays and her and Gerald used to go all out with the costumes! Christmas was her other favorite – the house decorated, Christmas Eve marathon wrapping sessions (she even had the kids wrap their own packages without them knowing it!) after coming home from the Christmas Eve service, the table loaded with food and snacks. She enjoyed making all those times magical for her family.
Travel was something she and Gerald enjoyed as a couple and also with friends and their growing families. Colorado, Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, New Orleans, California, Florida – were just a few of the many places they went. Trips to Alaska in the recent past were highlights and she was looking forward to her next visit! Her baking was known throughout the county, and many are already missing her pies, blackberry cobbler, party mix, Christmas cookies, and other yummy things she made. It was something she was very proud of. You know it must be good stuff when kids leaving their parents nest wanted to know how to get on your mom’s Christmas goodie bag list!
Pat also loved flowers – cut flowers, flower beds, flowerpots, etc. And enjoyed planting things to attract birds and hummingbirds. She did, however, NOT like carnations! Not really sure why, but that was always made clear!
Pat was an animal lover, starting back as a little girl, when her parents raised parakeets and canaries. A love of silky terriers came many years later, when her brother Dale, brought her a little puppy, Pepper, and there has been a silky terrier as part of the family ever since. Her oldest brother Herschell also loved silky terriers and all three bonded over that mutual love. She also loved all the dogs, cats, horses, found on the farm. Bailey, Miss Millie, Buckshot, and Miss Jidders are all definitely missing her.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, H.H. Sr. and Neoma, and her brothers, Herschell and Dale. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Gerald, daughter Carrie, and son Jason and his wife, Jennifer (who was her favorite daughter-in-law); as well as many deeply loved nieces and nephews and so many dear friends. She was a wonderful grammie to her fur-grandkids, Gunnar, Hazel, Charlie, Gordon, and Phoebe…she always gave good scratches and many yummy treats!
Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 pm Friday, February 20th at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, KS.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Anthony, Kansas. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, Pat requested donations to The Arts Center, The Historic Anthony Theater, or the United Methodist Church in Anthony in her memory. Donations should be made payable directly to the organization of the donor's choosing and may be mailed in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
