Philip Ray Young

Philip Ray Young was born November 29, 1940, son of Eldon and Helen (Feely) Young, in Manchester, Oklahoma. He grew up in Manchester, graduating from Manchester High School with the Class of 1959.  

On April 2, 1963, Phil was inducted into the United States Army.  He was stationed in Louisiana, California, and Germany.  He received an Honorable discharge on March 19, 1965.  

On June 15, 1963, Phil was united in marriage with Janet Sue “Susie” Kenworthy in Coats, Kansas.  This union was blessed with two sons: Kevin Ray and Travis Dustin.  After Phil’s discharge, the couple made their home in Manchester until 1985 when they moved to Anthony.  

Phil spent many years as a farmer.  He later took advantage of his carpentry and handyman skills going to work for Bob Green, eventually becoming an independent carpenter.  He was a very talented carpenter and jack-of-all-trades. He had a hand in many major construction projects in Anthony.    

Phil passed away December 26, 2025 at Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 85.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his two sons: Kevin and Travis; and his brothers, Keith and Larry.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Susie; daughters-in-law, Kay Young and Mallory Young; grandsons, Dalton, Wade, and Hunter; step-grandsons, Rollin, Owen, and Parker; sisters-in-law, Deanie Young and Karen Young; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was held on January 5, 2026 at the Revolution Fellowship Church in Anthony.  Burial followed in Forest Park Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Phil may be made payable to the Phil Young Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
