Richard Ellis Redfern Sr., 85, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Loveland, Colorado.
Richard was born on November 25, 1940, in Harper, Kansas. Known to many as “Dick” or “Dickie,” he grew up in a small Kansas town before eventually making his way to Colorado, where he grew to love the Front Range and built a life centered around family and entrepreneurship.
In 1979, Dick purchased his first business, Empire Dispatch, beginning a successful career in communications. Through hard work and determination, he grew his communications empire to include Radio Communications Corp, Business Radio Communications, and Action Page. His dedication and vision helped shape the businesses he built and the people who worked alongside him.
After retiring, Dick and his wife Joyce built their dream home in Glendo, Wyoming. Together they enjoyed traveling and later found a second home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where they spent many sunny days making memories. After years in the desert sun, the pull of family brought them back home to Greeley, Colorado.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joyce; his brother, Jim; his four children: Rick and his wife Jan, Ron and his wife Jodie, Suzanne and her husband Kirk Mardesen, and Tanya and her husband Andy Brown; eight grandchildren: Bridget and her husband Jason Black, Samantha and her husband Brian Franzen, Garrett and his wife Katy Mardesen, Sarina Sloman, Kody and his wife Kaiyoomia Mardesen, Ryan and his significant other Phoebe, Riley, and Travis; thirteen great-grandchildren: Amelia, Maddie, Jaxton, Selene, Lucy, Bodie, Karissa, Chaslee, Scarlett, Charlotte, Leyton, Gunner, and Lennon; and his dear, beloved dog, Missy.
Dick will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his love of travel and sunshine, and above all, his deep devotion to his family—including Missy, who brought joy and companionship into his life. His legacy lives on through the many generations who knew and loved him.
Join Family and Friends to pay tribute to Richard on Saturday, April 18th from 2:00-4:00 at the Country Club Estates subdivision park in Greeley, CO (cross streets of 43rd Ave and W 15th Street Ln). There will be light snacks.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
With love and respect, The Redfern Family
