William Afton Slankard, 65, passed away at St. Francis Hospital under the care of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice on Friday, May 22, 2026. Service honoring Bill's life will be at 11:00am, Saturday, May 30, at Harvest Bible Fellowship in Harper, Kansas.

Bill worked at Ascension Via Christi - Trimedx for 17 years and faithfully commuted an hour each way from home to work every day for 10 years. That dedication reflected just how much he loved both lake life and his work family.

Bill enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, and sharing dinners with friends and family. He was known for being durable, loyal, generous, faithful, and simply an all-around good guy. Bill also had a playful side, with a witty sense of humor and a love for joking with others. He loved his gadgets so much that many affectionately knew him as the “gadget man.”

Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he now breathe easy and rest peacefully in paradise.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Slankard; and daughter, Amber Slankard. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Janet Slankard; mother, Marcella Hoffman; children, Amy (Taylor) Barnett, Jared (Karla) Heiman, Jamiah (Vinny) Sparapani, and many children of the heart that Bill and Janet loved throughout the years; siblings, Melissa Slankard, and Carrie (Robert) Lindsay; grandchildren, Jazzilyn Slankard, Aria Barnett, Joey Copeland, Jackson Heiman, Anabelle Heiman, Logan Heiman, Tanner Heiman, and Valo Sparapani; and great-granddaughter, Daisy Copeland.
